Technology

Santas from my collection: Thrift store find, Yule Tomte with barn cat and sticks, resin from hand carved with birds.

You probably noticed the change in my blog some weeks ago. When I went to trade out the pumpkin header photo for something more Christmassy, I got into trouble with Blogger and thought I had lost everything. It took some searching to find a "theme" template that would put my page features back where they belong. Then I had to find a new color since my old "theme" was gone. I like the green but I will need to fight play with it more, later, much later, to change the red lettering. At least the post text is no longer red!
Santas: The Baker, the Gardener, a Sami from the Norse lands, another Nordic Father Christmas

Last week a friend told us about learning how to print address labels on her computer. I had noticed more people are doing that, and with it getting harder and harder to write, I wanted to try. it. The Google directions for the Microsoft Write program were very simple. Just find the "Mailings" tab on a black document and go from there. But no matter how many times we tried, right clicking over and over, Googling more sources, what seemed like hours later, there was no "Mailings" tab and we gave up.
Tom went shopping, and came back with some Avery labels. In the mean time, I fired up my lap top, and there was the "Mailings" tab. Well, that meant my desktop program was corrupted, so I uninstalled it, and, with a bit more searching, reinstalled it. Wa la! Fixed!

We went through the steps and looked for the Avery product in the list of options. Nope. Not there.  Well, Heck! But the Avery package gave a web site for downloading their template to our Word program. We did that. Yay!

I now have about half of my labels typed and I printed out one sheet of labels. It all works!

Now if I can just get my photo cards. I ordered them on line, finally finding a format that would fit my three selected photos. I didn't realize delivery wouldn't be until Dec. 17th. But I got a message that the delivery might be speeded up, "free of charge". We'll see. I guess I'd better get the rest of those labels typed.
Terry Claus from Whidbey Island, hand carved willow bark from up state New York, hand carved Toy maker from a wood carver shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, Father Christmas from the famous Christmas shop, Kathe Wohlfhart, also in Rothenburg
Tomorrow we are having a tea party. We'll eat cookies. I'm ready.

Now back to typing labels.

Technology is wonderful when it works.

  8. Technology is both a blessing and a bane. Young people are too immersed in it and joys such as hand carving are skills that are not as appreciated as 3D printing. And yet, it makes certain things in life so much easier. Your Santas and table setting are lovely and a nice pairing with your techno news.

  10. You are so technologically savvy. I dread making any changes on my blog lest I mess up ( which happens from time to time). I enjoy seeing your various Santas. I had started a collection years ago but had to quit due to lack of room. Have fun at the cookie party. Here it's my husband birthday so family will be over this evening.

  15. I usually do about 30% of my newsletters on hard copy. And we also do mailing labels on the computer. Other than that, I’ve been sending out our newsletters as attachments by email. Unfortunately, I am way, way behind this year. I’m trying to get motivated but having difficulty. Sigh…
