Island Getaway.

While Autumn officially began on Sunday, September 22, we knew we had two more good summer days left, so on Monday we packed up and went to Whidbey Island.

There were clouds in the morning, but clearing to blue sky in the afternoons.

We went for a walk on the on the beach road before lunch.

Rose hips and asters.

We enjoyed a lazy afternoon with just a bit of yard grooming.

After dinner I was out on the beach to watch the slow sunset. I called Tom to come join me when it got too beautiful to miss.

The neighbor's flowers just added to the glow.
Mt Rainier peaking out in alpenglow.
So calm.

It was a great start to our little retreat from the ordinary and a farewell to summer.

  2. Absolutely beautiful! You should enlarge some of these photos for your home base wall. I love the first one with the single boat and Mt. Ranier poking up in the background. We don't see that kind of thing in Kansas. So, does the sunset put its color into those bright orange flowers, or do the flowers place out the sun on the horizon? Thanks for sharing some tranquility. 5. Gorgeous sunset and the shot of Mt. Ranier is wonderful. I'll soon be sailing out of Seattle, and hope to capture the sunset too.

  6. I was on Whidbey Island back in 2000 mid September. The weather was sunny, cool and crisp. They said it was Indian summer. Sunsets were glorious. I can never forget how nice it was there.

  9. I know rose hips are supposed to have lots of vitamin C. I wonder if you can make something with it.
