How Green Was My Valley

The Willamette Valley is a lovely place to visit in the late spring.  With crops in the fields and wooded hillsides, green abounds.

We love to just drive the country roads and soak it all in, and identify the crops if we can.

I was able to capture some of the essence today through the car window as we drove, and as we made some stops along the way.

A Christmas tree farm next to Adams cemetery.↓
More Christmas trees and the red soil in the hills next to Clarks Pioneer Cemetery.↓
A tall grain field by the iris garden.↓
Looks like it might be onions on a drive by photo.↓ And I love the oak trees left out in the fields.
There are many filbert, or hazelnut, orchards in the valley.↓

Parts of the valley grow lots of hops, too, for beer making.↓
The hop vines will grow quickly now to the tops of the wires.
An old spreading oak punctuates a field of grass for seed. Or it could possibly be for hay.↓Both are produced in large quantities in the valley.

Another huge crop is nursery stock.  Many plants you buy in the garden centers are raised here.↓
 More onions.
A field beautifully worked and ready to be planted.
A brand new filbert orchard with hay grass in the rows as a way to make a crop while the trees mature.↓
 More nursery stock.↓

We are back home tonight, and I have sorted through over three hundred photos.  We visited some wonderful places, and tomorrow I'll start working on the vivid colors other that green that we saw as we treated ourselves to some gardener's eye candy.
