Father's Day

For those of you who have followed my blog for a while, it will come as no surprise that we have a busy family. We celebrated Father's Day a day early to accommodate some of that busyness.

School was out for the summer yesterday (Friday). Isaac went to an overnight with a friend, Irene went to a six grade party and then an evening with a friend, and Jill had a staff party and then gathered with teacher friends on into the night time hours. They all converged at their house at some point.

Thursday we attended Irene's sixth grade graduation. She will move on to middle school, just as Isaac will move on to high school.

Irene received a President's Education Award for Educational Excellence. And we ate cake!
Then Irene and her friends were whisked away in a limo for two hours of cruising and eating ice cream.
Meanwhile Tom and I mostly did our usual Thursday/Friday stuff.

Today, Saturday, we cooked. And then Jill and the kids joined us for a little Father's Day dinner. Ribs were in the menu.

There were ribs, asparagus, honey soaked corn bread, and a fruit and berry medley.
Of course there was dessert, brownies and chocolate sundaes, once we waited a little while, and played several fun rounds of Scatergories, with plenty of laughs.

Jake has been working out of town for over a month, east of the mountains in Ellensburg, surveying land that has been donated to the state to be turned back into a natural habitat. He gets three day weekends, and is spending this one at the Whidbey Island cabin, with friends, for his traditional summer solstice celebration.

Jill and Isaac leave in the morning for a week of wilderness camping with the Boy Scouts. Irene will be staying with her Aunt Jan for a few days, and with us later in the week.

So we have to grab the opportunities when we can. Tomorrow, Sunday, Tom and I will go on a little adventure of our own.

Wishing you all a Happy Father's Day as you remember those who have passed and honor those still with us.

Love is for sharing.

  7. Fantastic to hear all that is running smoothly at your end. We don't eat corn bread. We are big on rye bread, a German thing?
