Deck the Halls

There's not much new in our holiday decorating from year to year. The only question is, "Should we put it all up again this year?"

So far, the answer is, "Yes!"

And so the kitchen is garlanded with gingerbread men and calico as usual. I made these ornaments when we first moved into our newly built house, which was now almost 39 years ago.

The decorations on the beam in the dining room have changed over the years. There's a Scandinavian theme in the dining room, so there are hearts on the garland, but lately there are also vintage glass ornaments, since I found several boxes of them when we cleaned out our elderly neighbor's house. I added a few from antique shops. And of course some of them are Shiny Brites, Connie!

There are lots of straw decorations here, and Dala horses and elves and other fun stuff.

We're not planning on a lot of entertaining, but we will have a holiday lunch here for my old teacher friends. And we will celebrate Christmas Eve with family here, and maybe a small function right before and right after Christmas. In between we will just enjoy it ourselves.

  5. What makes your decorations so special is their history and the memories of Christmases past they evoke. You're way ahead of me. I just got the last of the autumn decorations put away and will soon start dragging Christmas boxes up from the basement.

  8. Be honest, now. Do you sometimes forget to put something away after the holidays.

  9. There's not much new about our decorations either but it's been 10 1/2 months since we last saw them and we welcome them back like old friends.
I really like your garland with the gingerbread men.
