And We Stuffed It All Up

It was our last act in putting away Christmas. Kinda' made me think of the Grinch.

This week we have worked on taking down and packing up all of our Christmas decorations. I started with the easy stuff, the garlands and buffet in the dining room and then the kitchen. Yesterday I packed up all of the Santa collection and all of the this and thats, here and theres on the walls and tables, while Tom took down all of the outside lights.
Then today we packed up all of the decorations on our two trees, and we stuffed the tree back in its box.
All of the rest, the tubs and boxes, were carried out to the garage.

Then we opened the hatch and pulled down the ladder to the attic. I hefted the tubs up as high as I could, Tom grabbed them from the top of the ladder, and we stuffed them all up.

Now they are all arranged in their assigned places up there.

We even had enough energy left to clean the family room floor of debris and move the furniture back in the places it occupies eleven months of the year.

Tomorrow we will clean house. Then I have some putting back to do.

And then we will be done. Christmas is over. We enjoyed it for a full month and it was wonderful. We can look forward to doing it all again next year, and for as long as we can still stuff it all up and get it all back down again.

  1. A good optimistic look at the future. I’m moving into sea otter mode for the coming year, ‘kick back, relax, and enjoy the swim.’ I’ve ordered me a pewter sea otter pin to remind me.

  2. Wall to wall decorating like you do is rewarding, but it's an awful lot of work.

  3. I hope the ups and downs continue for many more years. Your family makes the most of the holidays and the rest of us get to enjoy all that cheer through your blog. I have considerably downsized but I still enjoy looking at decorations (while enjoying not having to deal with them).

  4. It is a ton of work, isn’t it? But still worth it to me. I’ll be sad when I give it up but one can only do it so long.

  6. It's another of those enormous projects you and Tom have every year. I am glad it's you and not me. Who knows how many years I'd last? :-)

  7. It was fun while it lasted. Putting it all away and getting the house all cleaned and put together for another year always feels so good once it's done. Having these things out for only a month makes that time all the more special. Here's to many more years of taking it down and stuffing it all up again!

  8. You decorate so wonderfully and completely. Had to be fun going up, not so sure about the take down. I always hated the suddenly bare house look that took readjusting to.

  12. Since we were in Maryland for most of the holiday season, we didn't have any holiday things up which made it easy. But there's all kinds of other stuff that needs to be organized. I WILL get started once I stand up.
