A Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

We met a lot of big, beautiful, orange, sincere pumpkins Friday afternoon.

It was a non-school, teacher's in-service day here in Washington. I don't know if any teachers went to training sessions, but our teacher didn't. Instead, she and the kids met up with us at Carpinito's Pumpkin Patch in the Kent Valley.

While there were picked pumpkins sitting all around us, we needed to go out to the actual patch, where there are vines and all.
So we got our pumpkin transport and off we went.

We didn't have to go very far to make our selection. Some like them green, but most of us like them orange. The trick was finding pumpkins that didn't weigh 30 pounds!

It was a beautiful day and The Mountain was out.
So much color! There were bins full of gourds and mini- pumpkins

 and racks of colorful mums.
The aroma of kettle corn cooking wafted over the scene.

The three "kids" had their mouths set for fresh roasted corn on the cob.
And there were more bins full of fresh out of the field produce.

Here is Jill's load of pumpkins and produce.
 Here is mine.
As you can see, we both came away with kettle corn, and Brussels sprouts. I bought a huge head of cauliflower, some radishes,  four poblano peppers that I will roast, chop, and freeze, two acorn squashes, and two ears of corn.

I think we'll just eat vegetables for a while.

Oh, and we had fun!

  2. Beautiful. It always amazes me how you keep teenagers so involved in family activities. I had cream of cauliflower soup the other night at the OX restaurant in Portland. It was wonderful.
