Valentine's Day

We are not big on celebrating Valentine's Day. Sometimes we do cards. I usually buy my own flowers, well ahead of the day. I eat chocolate every day.

Since we got ourselves free yesterday, I decided to follow Connie of Farside's suggestion, and look at Valentine cards together at the grocery store while we were there.
I found a perfect one for Tom, had him read it, gave him a kiss, and then put it back on the rack. It was an $8.99 card! Tom didn't do as well. He said he couldn't find a good one. Oh well, I'll keep him anyway.
We also enjoyed all of the flowers and decorations at the store, and left them there.

I've had these on my kitchen table for a week. They'll do.
We are going to go out to dinner. We are tired of being house bound, and I look forward to having someone else cook for me.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. Tell someone you love them.

  1. Poppy and I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day either, so I was shocked when he came home with roses yesterday. It amazes me how loaded the stores are. All this stuff will have to be taken down and put somewhere tomorrow. Glad it's not me. :) Your flowers are always beautiful. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Tom.

  2. We don't really do Valentines either. I did laugh at you showing Tom a card and then putting it back.

  3. We exchange cards but we don't put them back. Too funny but I don't blame you. Cheers and Happy Valentines Day.

  4. Hi Linda,
Happy Valentine's Day from Maine to you and DH. My husband and his "buddy" take pictures of big boxes of Valentine chocolates with their phones and text them to their wives! Another inexpensive way to do it - or maybe they're just cheap? Anyway, we all get a laugh out of it. They do it at Christmas too! Enjoy your dinner out tonight! ~A fellow retired teacher, Cheryl

  9. The bouquets are expensive but maybe once they're marked down I'll buy one. Your flowers look lovely in the white pot. I hope your dinner was delicious!

  10. Mike and I always exchanged cards. We never went out for dinner (Valentine Day, New Year's Eve or Mothers' Day, avoiding crowds) but we always shared a really nice meal and were grateful for the time together.
The card viewing reminded me once of being in drug store with my practice/first husband. I heard him giggling away in the next aisle so I went to investigate. He was looking at a card he thought would be perfect for my birthday: I wanted to get you something you could really use in the kitchen.
inside: but you already have a smoke detector. He had such a sense of humor. Haha.

  11. That was a good idea, reading the cards and putting them back. Yikes, $9 for a card? :-)

  12. I love that idea of reading cards and putting back. Brilliant. The sentiment is shared and it doesn't end up in the landfill.
