Medical Update

It seems that some of you have been a little concerned about me. I'm OK and I thank you for your concern.

My heart surgery on Tuesday was successful , at least according to the many monitors and wires I had hooked up. The doctor and nurses said everything was good, according  to my vital signs, taken every time I was beginning to fall asleep. I'm glad I had only one night in the hospital because that is not fun. Besides being checked on all the time, my roommate, who  had the same surgery, developed spontaneous bleeding so there was a constant parade of practitioners  in the room all night. Needless to say I got very little sleep and I am still trying to catch up. I'm just thankful I did not have her complications.

My complications were typical for me: lack of sleep, upset digestive system, and a very messed up neck. I had severe gas pains in my upper digestive track, that caused a lot of pressure, which was scary since I just had heart surgery, but there were no indications of anything serious. It is slowly resolving itself. My neck was messed up from being in bed all day and that was very painful. I'm slowly recovering from that to, and I'm moving very carefully so as not to set if off again.

Tom is being a very sweet care giver. I appreciate him so much.

I'm still a bit fuzzy headed, so I hope I have cleaned up the many errors in my typing. I'll be taking it easy for a while as everything evens out.

Thanks for all of your support. Your caring means a lot to me.

  1. Congrats! Glad it's done and with good results from all of the poking and prodding. People are not supposed to sleep at the hospital. Yep, vital signs are taken frequently (well, they DID mess with your heart.) That's a good observation on the timing: just as soon as you fall asleep. Read your discharge instructions several times. If they didn't print out your medications correctly, double-check with your doc. Sleeping at home will be very nice. Linda in Kansas

  9. Well of course we're concerned about you! Glad it went well. I was the one who had all the complications and stayed in the hospital for 150 days.

  10. So glad to hear from you and know the surgery is over and you are back home with your sweet Tom. Neck pain is awful. I'm learning that first hand. :) Take care. Wish I could send you a bouquet of flowers just like those in your header picture.

  11. Wonderful that all went so well though it had to be disconcerting that your room mate with the same surgery had complications. Hope she is OK now too. Rest up and let that handsome caregiver get you feeling right again soon.

  12. Glad that you're home and that the procedure was successful. I'm surprised you only had a single night in the hospital after the surgery but considering how little sleep you got maybe it was for the best that you come home.

  13. Glad to hear an essentially positive report. A hospital is no place to rest and recover or so it seems. Applause to Tom for his caretaking and all best wishes for your health to return. You have been through so much lately.

  17. Congratulations and glad that the surgery is all over. I am glad that you can take it easy and then enjoy the spring that is just around the corner. Can you take something for the gas? It seems to me that they would want you to be more comfortable and I do remember those times in the hospital when people were continually interrupting my sleep.
