I'm Doing OK

My hip replacement surgery went well on Friday and I was home by 7:00 that evening. With a spinal instead of general anesthesia and then refusing opioids I have been able to avoid the terrible bowel issues of previous surgeries.

Of course not using the Oxycodone means more pain, but I think the worst day is behind me. I am moving about, can go up and down my stairs, carefully, and I can eat without nausea. I spend a lot of time in my recliner, "icing and elevating" .

Tom has been a wonderful caregiver and Jill came over this afternoon to give me a neck and shoulder massage. Lovely!

I'll see my physical therapist on Tuesday and begin the process of rehabilitation.

All is well.

  1. Good effort on your part to have a successful surgery. I can't believe that you were home the same day. You're a tough character to keep off pain killers as much as possible. bone surgery is painful. All the best to you for a rapid recovery.

  2. Wow! Be careful with the stairs so soon. (I want your TV tray. I love those old types. I hate the newer wooden, heavy ones.) Keep following instructions! Linda in Kansas

  3. Been there. Glad you're doing well. My doctor reminded me to stay ahead of the pain. You do that, too!

  4. Linda, my daughter-in-law just had hip replacement surgery the week before you (I believe - Feb 28th). She did fine the first day (up and walking with the walker) but the pain hit her the next afternoon after her discharge. As Linda Myers said, the doctor told her to stay ahead of the pain. She is taking the Oxycodone... and icing it, etc. They will be flying back here to remove the staples sometime this week. Do take it slow and easy... and don't overdo.

  7. Happy you're doing so well. Hope your whole recovery goes smoothly and PT isn't too painful. Attitude is everything, and you have that going for you! Now is a good time to take it slowly so you can be ready for Spring flower and garden tending!

  13. I too was very happy to see that picture of you looking relatively normal! I do hope you can stay away from the opioids and all those awful side effects from previous surgeries. Sending you virtual hugs and lots of thoughts during each day. :-)
