Dinner Plans Changed

In Seattle, we watch the weather forecast with a dubious eye. Because weather here is quite unpredictable, a media "Storm Watch" may or may not amount to much.
Yesterday we did have wind and rain as predicted. The mountain passes are clogged with snow and people traveling from one side of the state to the other had a tough time of it.
Today is Lucia Day, and traditionally we host our Lucia Day dinner here. The house is clean, the salmon is in the refrigerator, the hazelnut torte layers are done, and the table greens and candles are in place, just waiting for the addition of the fresh flowers. But the weather is playing games with us. We didn't get snow, but now we may get ice. With everything rain drenched, a deep freeze is predicted to set in beginning this afternoon and will stay around all week. We now have to guess in order to make decisions. Will it get icy this evening? Will Tuesday be better - colder but dryer with the roads cleared? That's what I'm betting on. The salmon and torte are going into the freezer.
Lucia Day dinner has been postponed until Tuesday. Is that the right choice? Who knows. But today we'll bake cookies instead.

  1. Sorry, you had to change your plans, but I'm sure it will be wonderful on Tuesday. We had snow overnight. Now it is trying to rain, but it is supposed to get much colder tomorrow.
I'll stay in and finish the family calendar.

  2. With all this weird weather, I'm kind of getting the hankering to do a little baking myself...once we get done with putting up our roller shades, that is.

  5. It has been up and down, yes, no, maybe! hasn't it? Sorry you had to postpone your big evening, but it'll be even lovelier once you're able to get it together! I hope soon! I did manage to get out this morning while the there was a little sun and dry roads and got my hair cut -- wow, what a relief! I may not get out again now for who knows??? Ah, well, that's Seattle!

  6. I'm in Portland, OR watching the weather forecast. Right now it's rainy and very cold, and tonight it should get much colder.

I'm also a proud Democrat as well as a reader and thinker. That's why I love living in the Pacific Northwest.
