From Big To Small. Forest To Tiny Trees

In stark contrast to the previous Gig Harbor Tour garden, Millie Russell gardens on a small scale. In October 2017 she and her husband moved from a half acre waterfront garden to a small cottage in a retirement community. Landscaping was minimal and there were restrictions about planting. But Millie moved with over 60 pots full of plants and a large bonsai collection.
Fortunately by the fall of 2018 planting restrictions were lifted and planting in the ground could happen. Millie still gardens in pots though, as evidenced by the pots on this utility vault cover. I grinned when I saw it.
Millie does have away with plants in pots, and with bonsai.

Around the side of the house and to the back, we see all that she and her husband have achieved in a short time in a small space.

I didn't see places to sit in her garden - too busy, I guess- but she provided a lovely bench for street strollers.
Our next stop was Starbucks, for coffee and a light lunch we brought along. Then we drove over to Jan's house on the bay for a short visit.

We had a deadline, to be home by 3:00, and we had one more large garden to visit, so we were off again. That garden will be next.

  4. It's very beautiful and shows you don't need acres of space to have a truly lovely garden. :-)

  5. how fun, we live in a retirement community with restrictions on what you can plant, etc. It drives my gardening hubby nuts! Amazing what these people have done in a small space especially with bonzai trees just beautiful!

  8. Loved the bonsai and containers. Just proves limited space is not an excuse for no garden.
