"Timber" postscript

The dogwood tree came down on Thursday morning (see last post). By late afternoon Tom had it all cut up.

This morning we went to breakfast as usual on Friday mornings. Back home by 11:00. we got to work while the shade was still on the lawn.

Tom split the trunk sections. I raked up all of the debris. By noon the brush was stowed in the yard waste bins and the firewood was stacked beside the garage wall.

The rest of the woodpile, that had been moved while the house was being painted, was added to the new wood.
The lawn is all cleaned up. Now we have to wait for the rains to come so we can rehabilitate the grass.
While we kept the lawn watered throughout the dry summer, we didn't pour enough water on the restore the parts that were scorched in the late June heat wave. The water bill was too high as it was.
And those flowers from yesterday? I cheated a bit. They were actually picked at the beginning of the week and needed to be refreshed. I picked new ones today.

The vegetable garden was pretty much a bust this year, but at least I have a few flowers yet.

I hope you have a good Labor Day weekend. Ours will be mostly close to home.

  2. One tree can take a while to clean up. We had some 80 ft poplars and that was work. When they go down they take a lot of stuff with them.

  3. I am not going anywhere for the holiday, happy to be hunkered down here in Bellingham. Covid is scary right now.

  4. Nice job with the tree and some nice firewood there. Good job Tom. The grass is obviously suffering from lack of rain but at least you got some lovely flowers.

  5. Have a good weekend! We finally had rain here and the grass went crazy. My lawn hasn't looked this nice in a very long time.
