Garden Touring on Vashon Island - Part 3

It was time for a lunch break, so we found a little park on Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon Island with a picnic table in the shade to eat our picnic lunch.

It was windy and there was a lovely chill in the air.

We visited a small garden hidden in the woods before moving on to one of the stars of the day, the Stockett garden, Froggsong Gardens. We had been here before, years ago, but it was much changed, bigger and better.

There were wonderful hydrangeas everywhere. This one looks like lilacs.

We soon noticed that the garden had been enlarged to create an event center. The host, Lucinda, said she only hosts enough weddings to pay for her plant habit and someone else does all the work. There must have been a big initial investment, and she obviously has a run-away plant habit. :-)

We especially remembered this rill carrying water from the top of the garden down to a lower pond. The rill is behind the boxwood "knot garden".

I could just imagine all of the perfect spots for wedding photos.

There was much more that we didn't get to but we were worn out. We visited one more garden but it wasn't worth photographing. We did have a nice chat with the gardener though.

Then we went to find ice cream before driving back up island to the ferry dock, and eventually back home, satisfied with our day away, happy to have shared so much beauty, and pleased with ourselves at our stamina. Recovery came later.

  1. Beautiful Hydrangeas!! It can't be easy keeping them so lush when we've had such a hot and dry summer.

  6. You could have beautiful wedding photos in your yard too! Seems that everyone does event or get away weddings anymore....what ever happened to a church wedding and a reception in the church hall? Times have sure changed...I know our Grand Miss Paige is looking at Wedding Venues...she says it is stressful:)
