Done!

Empty and dull, or clean and uncluttered? I'm not sure, now that all of the Christmas decorations are finally down and stowed away in the attic. It was a big job, taking a good part of three days. We sorted everything into new bins, replacing lots of old cardboard boxes. Tom still has lights on the house to take down, but he was waiting for the ice to melt. And then today we got a little crazy and started rearranging the family room. Now you must understand that I am not a furniture mover. I pick what I think is the best arrangement, do that, and leave it - forever! So this is a major step. We have moved our recliners! Will we know where to sit? Of course moving things meant finding more dirt, so the cleaning was extended. I even moved pictures on one wall into a different arrangement. Now we are getting ready to go shopping. With our new arrangement we need new lamps, and some kind of shelving unit to replace an old desk. I never sit at the desk, but I do use the storage. Will we find what we need? The hunt is on! I guess we're not quite done, yet.

  1. Oh Linda, my furniture needs to be on rollers. I'm constantly moving furniture as well as buying new lamps, pictures, and bookshelves.

I will press on this year getting rid of clutter so I can rearrange furniture easier.

  2. Good luck finding that shelving. I found what I was looking for at Bed Bath & Beyond, surprisingly.

  3. I love when the Christmas de-decorating (new word?) turns into new furniture arrangements. I am a real furniture mover. In fact, I was just thinking that our family room needs a new arrangement. I doubt I can talk my husband into helping me do it.

  4. My furniture stays put until I replace them with new ones. I like the arrangements I have.

  6. What are you doing with the desk? Don't get rid of it. I'll claim it.

  7. I promised my husband before we retired that I wouldn't buy anything new. So far I've kept the promise because I still like what we have.

He is a collector of all things, so he's got constant projects - shelving, boxes, you name it - to try to get everything to fit the available space. He won't let me even get close to it.

  8. Wow! You HAVE been busy! I tend not to move things around much which is why we really go nuts when we place things in the first place because we know it's doomed to stay there.

Then again... our furniture will be moved when we work on the moldings and baseboards someday. Someday...

  9. I'm a furniture mover -- my husband used to say if he ever came home in the dark he'd probably kill himself by falling over something moved!

We did the same thing with old, individual boxes. Everything is away having been consolidated -- that is, except for the tree. I'll take it down this weekend and then drive it over to be mulched. Kind of sad...

  10. I'm in the midst of packing away and decluttering, but I keep getting side-tracked. I wish I'd stick with one room, even one corner of one room, until I move on to another area.

  11. Somehow taking the decorations down doesn't raise the same enthusiasm as getting them out huh Linda? But if we consider it in the light of going into a new year with all of it's new promises maybe that's not so bad? - Dave
