The Rainy City is A-Buzz

It's supposed to get colder as it gets dryer here in the Emerald City,  I guess that explains the snow mixed with rain this  morning.

I was hoping to get outside for a walk this morning, but I had to resort to my exercise station in the garage instead.
It's cold out there but about three miles into my ten mile workout, the long sleeved shirt comes off, and the chill is welcome.  So is the easy-to-hold new Kindle.
Josy was quite restless, which tells me she must have spent most of the night indoors, not liking the cold, wet weather either.  She finally gave up and went to bed in her closet nest.
Before exercising, I had some planning to do.  This morning at 9:00 the MLS released the soccer schedule for the 2013 season.  That means we had to get our calendar filled out.
My calendars are still on paper, since we don't have smart phones.  Home Sounders matches are noted in red and take precedence over most other activities.   There is a family wedding in early August on a home match day.  The wedding is in Pennsylvania.  We are going.  But we'll plan the travel around this date so that we only miss one game.  Yes, we're that crazy about our Sounders.
But there is other sports news today too.

As you might be able to tell from the header, I have been a sports fan for a long time.  Tom, not so much, but I raised my kids to love our teams too - the Supersonics and the Seahawks.

As you might be aware, the Seahawks are going big time this year, and the city is experiencing Seahawks fever.  Our guys play again on Sunday in the next round of the play offs.  It's been a while since we made it to the Super bowl in 2005.
We lost our basket ball team about five years ago when the Sonics were sold to Oklahoma City.  While I had not been following the team for several years prior to that, the loss to the city was a hard blow to many.
I loved those glory days back in the late 70's.  Today the city is all abuzz about the Sonics again.  The word on the street, not official yet, is that our local buyer, who has already won approval for a new stadium plan, is buying the Sacramento Kings.  We'll see if it really happens.

All of this has helped to take our minds off of the rain and gloom outside.  Sports can be a great diversion and an exciting form of entertainment.

Go, Seattle!

  2. Even though I had a smart phone, I still use a regular book type calendar that I keep on my desk. I like it better. I suppose I am old fashioned. Your yard looks so beautiful with the rain.

  3. Tomorrow should be really cold, but dry. So that won't be so bad, with the sun shining, I can be out in it just fine! :-)

I always think of you when I think of our home teams, Linda.

  4. I still have a paper calendar also. I tried the digital one a few years back and had a hard drive crash. After hyperventilating for a while, I began to sort out all my obligations, but it made a paper believer out of me!

Happy news about the basketball team! Ron's favorite sport is basketball, and he is still grieving the loss of the Sonics. :)

  5. Now I see how you guys get it all done ... you are very careful planners. We are more go with the flow around here, but we don't live in Seattle. There isn't as much to do in La Pine.

I remember that Seahawks game; the officiating was not very fair. If we would have lost fair and square, the disappointment would have been less.

That would be great if Seattle gets a pro-basketball team again!
