Mail, Meetings, and Me

The other day I got a fun surprise in the mail. Stephanie at Christianson's Nursery had said she would be sending me a Thank You gift for featuring their nursery display garden at the Northwest Flower and Garden Fest on my blog. I had forgotten all about it, but then this shirt arrived in the mail. Fun!
I sent her this photo in a thank you email. She had said she wanted to meet me when we came for the Tulip Festival this year. Unfortunately there will be no tiptoeing through the tulips this year. The festival is cancelled, of course. This is a big blow to the economy of the Skagit Valley and a great disappointment to me. This was a highlight of my year.

Yesterday Jill set us up with an electronic meeting app, Zoom. Teachers are using it to provide instructional material to students who are out of school and she thought we could use it to visually visit too. She taught us how to use it and we are set up on our computers and phones. Always fun to learn a new thing.

The days here are pretty quiet. I exercise, ride my stationary bike, which is easier on my back and hip than walking, and I read. Each day I spend morning time at breakfast and at least an hour at lunch here, reading the newspaper and working the puzzles.
It's great to have daylight now for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

  2. Oh no! I didn't realize the tulip festival would be canceled, but it makes sense. I'll have to check out that app. And it's a lovely sweater. Wish I had an exercise bike, I'm losing my fitness one day at a time. :-(

  3. Yes, and you're doing some good things to keep you going when you're penned in. We got our first cases this week and it certainly makes you take things much more seriously.

It's too bad about the Tulip festival and a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

  7. Well your photos do show off the gardens you visit so well. It was lovely of the nursery to take notice.
I have been participating with two writing groups and meditation group via Zoom. A very worthwhile use of technology.

  8. Good to exercise. Be careful and with your optimistic outlook you will weather the pandemic quite well. I have been using Zoom for the extension classes I take. I did not realize it could be used non-commercially.

  9. Now that is a cool shirt and you look great in it. It was nice of them to send it to you. I am surprised more gardens don't do similar things for the free publicity you provide. Hum, need to check out Zoom. Thanks for the heads up.

  13. I love the shirt! That is so sweet of them. You do feature the most beautiful photos, Linda and it really makes everybody want to go see the gardens and shops for themselves. Hmmm... I shall check out that zoom app.

  14. I hate the Tulip Festival will have to be cancelled. The shirt is so pretty and you look good in that shade of blue. I'm sorry your hip and back is bothering you. I'm worries too about not being able to garden this summer. I was lying awake in bed last night wondering if I could crawl on my hands and knees and get the garden planted. :) My doctor called in a prescription for 600 mg ibuprofen for me to take for a while. Sure hope that helps. Take care Linda. Hope all is better soon.

  15. I love you header picture! Is this a recent photo of your garden? It's still pretty brown here. Daffs, Bradford pears, hyacinths, forsythia blooming. Perennials starting to poke their heads.
What a nice gift! The shirt looks very good on you. I'm reading a lot.
Yes, this solitude has been...well quiet, certainly. :)
I can't believe I'm excited to drive over to my husband's office (no one is there and it's a single standing building) and pick up paper!!
So how long do you predict this will be necessary?
