Sleepless in Seattle

I am plagued by insomnia, so I am not at my best. I am plagued by conditions in Haiti, which seems to me to be misery at it's worst.
I am discouraged by politics, which seem stalled in nothingness.
I am stalled in my sewing projects until I learn new tricks. I'll need time to re-establish my sleep patterns. Haiti will have to endure unspeakable hardship while it takes too much time for aid to come and restoration to follow. I may need to watch less coverage. I can only hope in time the political maneuverings will bring about positive change. And I need to give myself time to learn, practice, and find joy again in creating. Meanwhile, my physical health requires me to push through discomfort and keep moving. Here time is not my friend. It's not raining, so I'm going for a walk. Maybe when I get back I won't be so "me" centered.

  1. Sorry to read of your insomnia...it is annoying to be awake when you think the rest of the world is sleeping, as you should be!! Sounds like you are in a general 'funk! I listen to podcasts in bed like NPR and Dr Dean Edell using my pillowspeaker from Radioshack[the size of a sanddollar. It's like reading a book with your eyes closed, and you are already in bed in case you happen to fall asleep.
The suffering in Haiti is as unbelievable as the tsunami was devastating. I think prayer is the only way that I can help.[I have already made a monetary donation.]
With RA, I also push through pain...one of the reasons that I volunteer. It gets my focus elsewhere. Is there a place that might capture your interest whether helping kids, animals, older folks, etc. Get in touch with your local RSVP: Retired and Senior Volunteers
They have a large assortment of various ways to make a difference, and the government remits funds [based on volunteered hours] to various organizations.
Hope you turn the corner and smile. TTFN

  2. understanding that down times help us appreciate the up times helps. I write lots in my private journal to sort out my thoughts and it always helps me discover what is really bugging which isn't always what I think it is...just know others understand-it's life and as they say this too will pass...

  3. Linda,
I made what I thought was a thoughtful comment earlier and I don't see it now. If you didn't delete it for some reason then I have a problem. This has been happening lately, even to comments I make on my own blog.

Your insomina should be your first priority. Get that taken care of and the rest will fall in place.

If you have a digital clock where you sleep, cover it or unplug it. No TV before bedtime, a hot bath, drink a glass of milk, soft background music, read something light, and top it off with a Tylenol PM and see if you can't break that cycle.

Haiti is too horrible for us to watch, give it a break while you're having trouble sleeping. Give politics a break also.

Pamper yourself until you're sleeping again. Be kind to youself.

  5. Linda, Source Naturals has a sublingual melatonin, The other kind does nothing! It will make you dream a lot at first, but works pretty good, At least it's worth a try.

I have had sleep problems, you can get totally exhausted and confused.
I wish you the best. A little sugar they say, the cookie helps one to sleep. A banana add Ice berg lettuce, blended with chamomile tea is supposed to help you sleep thru the night..

and a hot water bottle under the neck helps unless you stay warm, as I do now..

    May you sleep well tonight!

  6. Linda, sorry you are currently suffering ill health, agravated by the climate no doubt and your very sensitive concerns for others (Haiti, etc). It may not help but I don't worry much as I feel if I can't do anything about it I just let it flow over me. Please try to relax. - Dave
