Seattle Sounders Soccer

Saturday evening the Sounders played the second match in the three way rivalry known as the Cascadia Derby, for the Cascadia Cup.   Long time rivals in lower division soccer, now for the first time Portland, Seattle and Vancouver B.C. are all in Major League Soccer.  It's all about bragging rights in the PNW.

Isaac and Irene were happily playing with Aunt Jan at her home in Gig Harbor.  Jill had gone on ahead to meet up with friends from the supporter groups, help set up tifo, and hang out with Jake for a while.

We headed out in time for a refreshment stop before the march to the match.  We prefer Starbucks to a typical soccer watering hole.  We sat outside in the SUN!
Then we walked over to Occidental Park to meet up with Jill and fellow supporters from North End faithful.  We had helped prepare tifo two weeks ago for this match, but on a much smaller scale this time.

Occidental Park had been "Yarn Bombed"!  It was beautiful!  Would have been nice to have team colors on one of them though.

Jill was geared up and ready for the March to the Match.
Getting a higher point of view.  Let the fun begin!
At the stadium the Vancouver Whitecaps supporters looked good.
 Here we go.  Scarves Up!
Welcoming the players.  I couldn't see Jake, but my point-and-shoot found him. Center of photo, sunglasses on his head.
I found him here, in this sea of Emerald city Supporters.

 Vancouver tifo.
North End supporters tifo.  This overhead banner looked much bigger in Markus's garage.
There's Tom at the rail of the Hawk's Nest.
 It says "Heart of Cascadia"

Jill is waving the Cascadia flag that we helped paint.
At the other end, the Emerald City Supporters put up another great tifo display.
And overhead, the moon rose in a clear, fading blue sky!  No rain!  At last.
Oh, and the score?  A 2-2 tie was the result, with some great goals and very entertaining play.

We'll be back for more.
