December Days

Yesterday we made lefsa.  Click to see the process as I posted it two years ago.  Sometimes it's a smooth process, sometimes it's a floury mess.  Yesterday's experience was somewhere in between.  But it's done, and ready for the Norquist Family Christmas party on the 26th. Last year I didn't make any and it was noticed. :-(

It was a good activity for a dark, wet December day.  The Solstice is coming soon, and the minute by minute lengthening of the daylight will be welcome.
                       I HEARD A BIRD SING
                    I heard a bird sing
                    In the dark of December
                    A magical thing
                    And sweet to remember:
                    "We are nearer to spring
                    Than we were in September,"
                    I heard a bird sing
                    In the dark of December.

  1. Every night when it is dark by 430 and black by 500 my mom says,
"Look at that! 5 O'CLOCK AND IT IS PITCH BLACK OUTSIDE!"
We are looking forward to that changing...bring on the light.

  2. Love the picture, and the sentiment. I made a mistake in my post about it being on Thursday night; the 21st is Wednesday, the day after tomorrow! Even closer!!

  4. I remember this poem. It strikes a hopeful but melancholy chord in me. I'm glad you were able to make the lefsa. I'll bet everybody will be so excited. It sure does look like a lot of work though.
